The Diary of Chickabiddy Baby by Emma Kallok.  11-year-old Prudence keeps a diary of her summer vacation, including crushes, squbbles, and a secret admirer.

A Gathering of Days: A New England Girl's Journal, 1830-32 by Joan W.Blos.  A 14 year old girl keep a journal of the last year she lives on a family farm, dealing with her father's remarriage and death.

Castle Diary: the journal of Tobias Burgess, Page by Richard Platt.  11 year-old Tobias records his experiences of being a page in his uncle’s castle in 13th century England.

Jazmin’s Notebook by Nikki Grimes. Jazmin, an African-American teenager who lives with her older sister in a small Harlem apartment in the 1960s finds strength in keeping a journal of her life.

Pirate Diary: the journal of Jake Carpenter by Richard Platt.  The fictional diary of a 10 year-old boy who, in 1716 sets off from North Carolina to become a sailor, but ends up a pirate instead.

Race for the Sky: the Kitty Hawk Diaries of Johnny Moore by Dan Gutman. 14 year-old Johnny cannot think of anything important to write until two "dingbatters" from Ohio arrive in 1900 and try to build a flying machine.

For Your Eyes Only by Joanne Rocklin. Two sixth graders reveal much about their families, personal feelings, and writing poetry in their journals.

Letters from Rifka by Karen Hesse.  In letters to her cousin, a Jewish girl tells of her family's flight from Russia in 1919.

Good-Bye for Today: the diary of a young girl at sea by Peter Roop.  9 year-old Laura writes about things she and her family face while sailing aboard her father’s whaling ship.

The Music of Dolphins by Karen Hesse. A young girl who was raised by dolphins writes in her diary about her experiences of her new life on land.

The Secret Letters of Mama Cat by Jody Sorenson.  During her first year in junior,  Meredith deals with moving, her sister going to a school for the deaf, and the death of her grandmother as she writes her letters.

Stowaway by Karen Hesse.  A journal relates the experiences of a young stowaway from 1768-1771 aboard Captain James Cook’s voyage around the world.

In Ned’s Head by Soren Olsson.  11 year-old Ned uses his diary to record his wild thoughts about his eventful life.

Millicent Min, Girl Genius by Lisa Yee.  In a series of journal entries, 11 year-old Millicent Min records her struggles to learn to play volleyball, tutor her enemy, deal with her grandmother's departure, and make friends over the course of the summer.
